Looking Back on March 2025

We started off March by celebrating and singing Happy Birthday to eleven Over The Hill Gang (OTHG), members. We had an average attendance of 40 individuals and over 168 meals were served during the month. In addition, the gang welcomed four visitors.

Two presentations were provided during the month. Many thanks to Elaine Simpson with the City of Liberty Hill. She provided an informative overview regarding how the city operates along with the functions of various city departments. In addition, OTHG member, Gary Spivey provided a brief history presentation regarding “Fort Tumbleweed” and how the name came to be. Many thanks to Gary for informing us that Fort Tumbleweed was never a fort. Mr. Spivey provides a Liberty Hill history lesson ever third Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at the OTHG senior center.

OTHG members acknowledged and celebrated St. Patrick’s Day on March 13th. The majority of members wore some type of green clothing. A prize was provided for the best and/or unusual green outfit.

On Saturday, March 15, 2025 a “Celebration of Life” was provided for Gwen Burkhardt at the Andice Baptist Church. A large number of OTHG members were in attendance. Gwen was a very active member of the group and will be greatly missed.

The group has expressed interest in purchasing OTHG T-Shirts. The group usually purchase shirts about every two years. Order forms will be available each Thursday before our luncheon. Final deadline to order shirts is April 24, 2025.

During the late afternoon on March 27, 2025 a customer coming from Parker’s Grocery store accidentally backed into the north wall of the Senior Center building. Unfortunately a number of glass serving plates were lost which were located on the inside wall. However, it appears that was the only loss on the inside other than the wall itself. The city owns the building and has informed us that they are working with a contractor to provide the repairs. The city has requested that we not use the north room until repairs have been make. We anticipate repairs starting on April 30th.

The OTHG coffee social continues to meet every Tuesday and Thursday at 8:00 a,m, In addition, the Yak and Yarn group meet every other Tuesday (April 15 & 29 – May 13 & 27th), at 11:00 a,m, Each Wednesday, the Canasta Card group continues to meet at 10:00 a.m. The Ladies Bible Study group also meet on Wednesday starting at 11:00 a.m. In addition, our regular Thursday OTHG luncheon takes place at 11:30 a.m. followed by domino’s, bingo and various card games.
