Looking Back On October 2024

During the month of October, the Over The Hill Gang (OTHG), provided over 188 meals and enjoyed fun and fellowship with our gang members. We welcomed seven visitors with four individuals joining the group. Average attendance of 38 gang members per week. October meals provided were as follows: October 3rd. = Brisket Bits/Noodles, Steamed Vegetables, Fruit, Garden Salad, Dessert and Tea. October 10th. – Baked Potatoes with Brisket Bits, Beans, Sweet Carrots, Garden Salad, Fruit, Dessert and Tea. October 17th. – Frito Pie, Steamed Vegetables, Garden Salad, Fruit, Dessert and Tea. October 24th. – Cordon Blue, Sweet Carrots, Garden Salad, Fruit, Dessert and Tea. October 31st. – Chili Dogs, Three Bean Salad, Sweet Carrots, Fruit, Dessert and Tea.

The October history presentation was provided by historian, Gary Spivy regarding the Liberty Hill School Desegregation. October ended with the Thursday lunch and Halloween costume contest. Rachel Austin was the costume winner by wearing a miner, or loggers costume. There were many outstanding costumes to choose from.

October activities were as follows:

Tuesdays – Morning coffee social at 8:00 am, the Lady Loomers every other Tuesday at 11:00am.

Wednesdays – Canasta card players at 10:00 am. Women’s Bible study at 11:00 am. Evening Bible study at 7:00 pm.

Thursdays – Coffee social at 8:00 am. OTHG lunch at 11:30 am, followed by bingo, various card games and dominoes. The Liberty Hill history presentation, every third Thursday at 11:00 am.

The OTHG Thanksgiving luncheon will be on November 21st. with Turkey and a assortment of many covered dishes. We anticipate a lot of food and a number of guest in attendance. No social event planned on Thanksgiving Day – November 28th.

Looking Back On September 2024

Over 143 meals were prepared and served to the Over The Hill Gang members during the month of September with an average attendance of 37 members per week. Four visitors joined the group for lunch and for various activities. Lunch menu items served are as follows: September 5th. – Baked Potatoes with Brisket Bits, Steamed Veg. , Salad, and Fruit. September 12th. – Pizza, Garden Salad and Fruit. September 19th. – Corn Dogs, Garden Salad, Beans, Mixed Veg. and Fruit. September 26th. – Sandwich Wraps, Potato Salad, Garden Salad, Beans and Fruit.

We continue to share many stories during the Tuesday and Thursday morning coffee and fellowship gatherings. The canasta card games and Women’s Bible study continue to move ahead each Wednesday morning as well as the Looming class conducted every other Tuesday morning at 11:00 a.m. During the month of October, we will add an evening Bible Study at 7:00 p.m. each Wednesday evening.

Two presentations were provided to the group during October. The October Liberty Hill history lesson regarding the History Museum was provided by Gary Spivey. In addition, many thanks to our guest speaker, Jody Wills with the Capital of Texas Chapter Alzheimer’s Association for her very informative presentation. November’s history presentation will be regarding the Liberty Hill School desegregation.

The back beautification project (the shed), continues to move forward. A number of members have volunteered to help restore the shed by replacing the siding, painting the primer coat, final siding paint and trim. In addition, two members are painting murals on all sides of the shed. We look forward to celebrate the finished product in October, or November.

OTHG Looking Back on August 2024

The month of August was a very good and active month for the Over The Hill Gang (OTHG), members. Five weeks of lunch social events were provided during the month. Lunch meals provided were as follows:

August 1st. – Baked chicken, mashed potatoes, salad, mixed vegetables, tea and dessert.

August 8th. – Taco salad, chips, beans, fresh fruit, tea and dessert

August 15th. – Hot dogs, beans, potato salad, fresh fruit, tea and dessert

August 22nd. – Lasagna, green beans, garlic bread, salad, fresh fruit, tea and dessert

August 29th. – Sloppy Joe’s, salad, chips, fresh fruit, pork and beans, tea and dessert

The OTHG members welcomed 12 new members during the month. We continue to appreciate the volunteer kitchen help provided by the three Elders from the Church of Latter-day Saints. They have been a great help cleaning up after our lunch social events.

We continue to offer our thoughts and prayers to a number of members and family members who are facing difficult major medical decisions and procedures.

August 29th. – Presentation regarding upcoming Medicare changes

Additional monthly activities were provided as follows:

Men’s Coffee Social was provided every Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 8:00 a.m.

Canasta Cards was provided every Wednesday at 10:00 a.m.

Women’s Bible study provided every Wednesday at 11:00 a.m.

Several OTHG members have been meeting every Friday morning to assist with the restoration of the storage shed located in the back parking lot for the center. The repair and wood replacement, primer painting, final paint and trim were all completed during August. Many thanks to all those who participated.
