Lunch & Games 11/17/22

Today, I think, was a great success!

We had 35 members and 2 new members, Paul and Diane.  Paul was a school superintendent and Diane was a teacher.

The kitchen committee did a superb job.  Everyone pitched in, there were a few little stressful moments, but everyone pulled together and we got’r’done!  Everyone seemed to have a great time.
Thanks to Josie for providing the turkey.   ALL the food was just delicious.

Bingo was well attended and six of us played 5 Crowns until 4:30.  Gayle and Anna played Scrabble too.

Gary Spivey’s Men’s Coffee Group came in the morning for coffee and they even made breakfast!  There were 7 of them, then several of them came back for lunch and brought more!

Merle made a flyer of our activities for those who live in apartments so they can post it and maybe get more people interested.

JOKE: A husband in his back yard is trying to fly a kite. He throws the kite up in the air, the wind catches it for a few seconds, then it comes crashing back down to earth. He tries this a few more times with no success. All the while, his
wife is watching from the kitchen window, muttering to herself how men need to be told how to do everything. She opens the window and yells to her husband, ‘You need a piece of tail’ The man turns with a confused look on his face and says, ‘Make up your mind. Last night, you told me to go fly a kite!’

PRAYER:  Lord we come before You with Thanksgiving for all we are blessed with today and everyday food and fellowship time to spend together. We ask that you bless this food, nourish our body and always consider those less fortunate. In Jesus name we pray. Amen

JOKE: Ducks in heaven

Three women die together in an accident and go to heaven, When they get there, St. Peter says, We only have one rule here in heaven: Don’t step on the ducks!

So they enter heaven, and sure enough, there are ducks all over the place. It is almost impossible not to step on a duck.

Although they try their best to avoid them, The first woman accidentally steps on one.Along comes St. Peter with the ugliest man she ever saw. St. Peter chains them together and says, Your punishment for stepping on a duck is to spend eternity chained to this ugly man!

The next day, the second woman steps accidentally on a duck And along comes St. Peter, who doesn’t miss a thing. With him is another ugly man. He chains them together with the same admonishment as for the first woman.

The third woman has observed all this and, not wanting to be chained for all eternity to an ugly man, is VERY careful where she steps, She manages to go months without stepping on any ducks, but one day St.Peter comes up to her with the most handsome man she has ever laid eyes on…. Very tall, long lashes, muscular, St.Peter chains then together without saying a word,

The happy woman says, I wonder what I did to deserve being chained to you for all eternity?? The guy says, I don’t know about you, but I stepped on a duck…

Prayer: Lord, we Thank you that we can gather together with family and friends to share in food , drink and enjoy time together. Bless our Veterans that are with us here today, and those around our nation, We thank them for their service because without them we would not to be to enjoy this beautiful country we live in! Bless this food, may it nourish us and the fellowship we share. Be with us always in our hearts, In Jesus name we pray. Amen

November’s First Friday Potluck

On the way into Liberty Hill the clouds opened up and tried to drown us. Well that’s a little melodramatic. But it did rain really hard.

I said to Ella, “I wonder how many will be there?” The answer was two: Ella and I were the only ones there. But we had plenty to eat. We had the leftovers from Thursday – chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy etcetera. Plus Ella made pumpkin bars and I had brought beef stew. The chicken I bagged and froze for some future use.

Joke: If you are offended by blonde jokes, feel free to change their hair color to any shade you prefer. Feel free to change their gender, in your mind, also.

A young blonde woman was pulled over for speeding. The traffic cop that pulled her over was also a young blonde woman. The cop asked for the driver’s license. She dug around in her purse for a while and then ask, “What does it look like?”

The traffic cop said, “It’s  a rectangle and it has your picture on one side.”

The blonde driver pulls out her compact, opened it, and said, “Oh here it is” and showed it to the cop.

The blonde cop looked at it and said, “Oh I didn’t realize you were a traffic cop also you may go.”

Prayer: Lord, Thank you for family and friends Thank you for times like these Where we can gather together, Share in food, drink and relax. Please bless this meal, and all that it means. May the food nourish us, And the fellowship enrich our lives. Most of all, may we always invite you into our homes, And into our hearts. Amen.

Operation Liberty Hill (in case you are unfamiliar with them) their programs support our community in a variety of ways to include financial education, job training, financial assistance, clothing, and food.
I’ve been in touch with Operation Liberty Hill about a food drive. Their shelves are way under stocked at the moment. I thought that this group could help with that. They will be dropping off a collection barrel this week. I encourage you/us to bring at least one can of food now through November. If you would rather donate money/check we can do that also. If you write a check, make it out to Operation Liberty Hill, not to Over The Hill Gang.

Joke:
The day finally arrived: Forrest Gump dies and goes to Heaven. He is met at the Pearly Gates by Saint Peter himself. The gates are closed, however, and Forest approaches the gatekeeper.

Saint Peter says, “Well, Forrest, it’s certainly good to see you. We have an entrance examination for everyone. The tests are fairly short, but you need to pass before you can get into Heaven.”

Forrest responds, “It shore is good to be here Mister Saint Peter, sir. I was looking forward to this. Nobody ever told me ’bout no in trance exams. Shore hope the test ain’t too hard; Mama always said, “Life is like a test. ‘Cept you don’t if’n ya passed ’till yer dead.”

Saint Peter goes on, “Yes, I know Forrest. But, the test I have for you is only three questions. Here is the first: What days of the week begin with the letter ‘T’? Second, how many seconds are there in a year? Third, what is God’s first name?”

Forrest goes away to think the questions over. He returns late and goes up to Saint Peter to try to answer the exam questions.

Saint Peter waves him up and asks, “Now that you have had a chance to think the questions over, tell me your answers.”

Forrest says, “Well, the first one, -how many days of the week begin with the letter ‘T’?” “Shucks, that one’s easy; that’d be Today and Tomorrow!”

The saint’s eyes open wide and he exclaims, “Forrest! That’s not what I was thinking, but … you do have a point though, and I guess I didn’t specify, so I give you credit for that answer.”

“How about the next one” says Saint Peter, “how many seconds in a year?”

“Now that one’s harder,” says Forrest. “But, I thunk and thunk about that, and I guess the only answer can be twelve.”

Astounded, Saint Peter says, “Twelve! Twelve! Forrest, how in Heaven’s name could you come up with twelve seconds in a year?”

Forrest says, “Shucks, there gotta be twelve: January second, February second, March second….”

“Hold it,” interrupts Saint Peter. “I see where you’re going with it.”

“And I guess I see your point, though that wasn’t quite what I had in mind.

I’ll give you credit for that one too.”

“Let’s go on with the next and final question,” says Saint Peter, “Can you tell me God’s first name?”

Forest says, “Well shore, I know God’s first name. Everybody probly knows It’s Howard.”

“Howard?” asks Saint Peter. “What makes you think it’s ‘Howard’?”

Forest answers, “It’s in the prayer.”

“The prayer?” asks Saint Peter, “Which prayer?”

“The Lord’s Prayer,” responds Forest: “Our Father, Who art in Heaven, Howard be thy name…”

I get it. I get it. Come-on in forest

Prayer: Father, This meal is the work of Your hands. You have provided for us, again, and we are grateful. We confess our tendency to forget to ask Your blessing upon our lives, through the comforts that You have given us to enjoy. So many people lack these daily comforts and it is selfish of us to forget about them in their need. Show us how to make the most of Your blessing in our lives, for everything we have is a gift from You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
