Update on Tuesday morning coffee

What a wonderful success Tuesday September 06th morning coffee was.  The rock painting was fun and well attended by 15 people.

One member, Mickie, suggested we have a PARTY!  Just a good old-fashioned dress-up party!  I think that’s a great idea.  We could make a nice punch and have finger foods!  What a great way to celebrate our re-opening. the board will get busy making it happen.

And every Tuesday from 8:30 a.m. ’till we feel like leaving. 😀

What happened in August 2022?

August 2nd saw the beginning of the Tuesday Coffee klatch, because a cup of fresh brewed coffee and good conversations with friends is always a good idea.

Tuesday September 6th we will begin
painting Kindness Rocks.

August 2nd was attended by Jannett and Merle. That’s it. Just them. It could be argued that it wasn’t a great start. However it provided an opportunity to clear out the shed and check on supplies. The slow start just means we need to advertise it better. To that end, the following advertisement was published on social media sites. On Tuesday the 9th Ella and I joined them for coffee. With four of the six board members present we had an unofficial board meeting with no minutes taken. We talked about games and ways to engage more people in Tuesday and possible other days of the week.

New Members in August

In August we added Odena J, Bev H., Marilyn G.

New Menu Items

Along with the traditional first Thursday of the month fried chicken, and rolls, we added baked Mac and cheese, and corn on the cob. Even the traditional pinto beans was swapped out with ham and Navy beans on the 4th.

Thursday the 11th An old favorite King Ranch Chicken, was reintroduced on the 11th.

Thursday the 18th Lunch was Spaghetti with meat sauce, garlic bread, cucumber/cherry tomato salad, and fruit

25 THURSDAY the 25th
Lunch and was Meatloaf, deviled eggs, green beans, mandrin oranges with bananas, and of course pinto beans

New Games

In August we started some new after lunch games. Dominos, Scrabble and BINGO seem to be big hits. The games at FIRST FRIDAY POTLUCK AND GAME NIGHT included the card game 5 Crowns and the board game Fast Track. The club purchased bunco and mahjong games also … now if we can just learn how to play them.

Special Days

Hat Day on the 11th, Shirt Day on the 18th, and Bring a Friend Eat Free Day on 25th.

HAT DAY
every hat has a story
that they can tell
right off the top of their head

NEW SHIRTS

SHIRT DAY
The new OTHG shirts
arrived today,
ain’t that fitting.
The new slogan at the top
with the earlier design at the bottom.

Wow! It’s September

🎵TRY TO REMEMBER 🎶

Try to remember the kind of September
When life was slow and oh, so mellow
Try to remember the kind of September
When grass was green and grain was yellow
Try to remember the kind of September
When you were a tender and callow fellow
Try to remember and if you remember
Then follow, follow

Try to remember when life was so tender
That no one wept except the willow
Try to remember the kind of September
When love was an ember about to billow
Try to remember and if you remember
Then follow, follow*

On September 1st, 26 members enjoyed a chicken dinner, lots of games, and great conversations. Fun was had by all. We look forward to seeing you next Thursday by 11:30am.

REMEMBER

Speaking of remembering … Remember that the first Friday of every month is our POTLUCK AND GAME NIGHT starting at 7:00pm.

SECRETARY’S REPORT

Today went just great, we all pulled together and made it happen.  The food was delicious, there were lots of desserts, everyone worked together and cooked and cleaned up.  Tom and Ella, don’t think this means we don’t need y’all!  Hope you two are having a good time!  We miss you!

I was surprised to see Mr. Hanley. He is a member from waaaaaaaaay back!  I didn’t even think to get the name of the lady who brought him.  His daughter, maybe?  I will find out next time and see if she wants to sign on as a member.  This one got by me, sorry.

We will get together sometime before next Thursday and plan on the lunch menu and who is going to do what, ok?

Y’all are the BEST ever and always,

Hope to see you at Potluck tomorrow evening, 7:00 pm.

Merle

ANNOUNCEMENTS
Ella and I will be leaving for Iowa today and will miss the next couple of Thursdays

 Help is ALWAYS APPRECIATED.
Did you bring you Bring a Friend?
Ella and I did not bring a friend because we are leaving after lunch and heading toward Iowa. Had we brought a friend we would have had to leave them here. 😁

Joke:. Two multimillionaire friends met up for lunch and started chatting.
“So how’s your home life?” asks the first multimillionaire.

“Couldn’t be better,” replies the second multimillionaire. “I bought an elephant!”

“An elephant? Are you crazy?”

“It’s the best purchase I ever made! He grazes the lawn and makes it nice and even. The kids love to ride him and slide down his trunk, so now they are playing outside and being kids instead of just watching TV all day. My wife loves him too. He’s very strong and helps her move things when I’m not around. Honestly, I can’t think of a better pet.”

The first multimillionaire thinks for a moment. “That’s actually kind of amazing. How much did you pay for him?”

“Five hundred thousand dollars. What a bargain, huh?”

“Can I buy him for one million dollars?”

“What?! I can’t sell him. He’s part of my family now!”

“Okay. Two million?”

“You can’t put a price on something so useful!”

“Three million?”

“Fine. I’ll sell him for three million dollars, but only because you’re my friend.”

A few months later, the multimillionaires meet again. The first multimillionaire is raging.

“The elephant may have been useful to you, but he’s a burden to me. He may have grazed your lawn, but he ate all my trees and left dung all over my lawn. The kids are terrified of that huge, noisy, aggressive thing. My wife and I haven’t had a good night’s sleep in months because the elephant keeps us awake. It’s the worst purchase I ever made!”

“I don’t know what to say,” says the second multimillionaire. “But with that attitude, you’ll never be able to sell him

Prayer
Blessed are you, Lord our God,
maker of heaven and earth
and Father of all your people:
we give you glory for your goodness
and for your loving care for us.

Bless this food [this bread]
and grant that all who eat it
may be strong in body
and grow in your love.

Blessed are you, Lord our God,
for ever and ever.

OTHG 08/18/2022

Twenty six in attendance today.
Cleaning up the food after lunch.
If there is enough interest, Pat is wanting to do a Kindness Rocks craft on Tuesday September 6th at 10 o’clock.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

OTHG 08/18/2022 Today is Shirt Day and I see everyone wore a shirt … good deal .
On the 25th we encourage you to Bring a Friend. Yes we are trying to increase membership …  so the friend has to be a qualifying senior. But you and they Eat For Free that day.

Traditionally, those who cook don’t do cleanup. Food put away and tables cleaned, salt, pepper, etcetera before games begin. This allows everyone a chance to play
Help is ALWAYS APPRECIATED.

Jannett and Merle think they have a grasp of mahjong.  Right Jannett and Merle? They have planned to begin this game today. (However, bingo was played instead)
Speaking of games,  Folks remember BE KIND when playing games. Games, by their nature, have winners and losers. Be gracious whether you win or lose. They are only games, after all.

Joke:. A group of elder gentlemen were playing golf when a funeral procession drive slowly past the golf course. One of the men turned toward the hearse, removed his hat and held it over his heart until the line of cars was past. His friends commented on his gallantry. He replied, “Well … it seemed appropriate … she was a good wife to me for the last fifty years.” “Fore!”

Let’s bow in Prayer:.  Loving God, bless all those gathered here today as we come together in friendship and fellowship.
Thank you for the blessings of our individual and collective God-given gifts.
Place in our hearts the desire to make a difference to our families, to our community, to our country,
and to the many cultures and peoples worldwide.
Give us balance in times of distraction and uncertainty.
Help us move towards your goal with determination and always with an abundant sense of humor.
Please bless this food we are about to share, those who prepared it, those who serve it,
and those who have worked to make today the special occasion that it is.
For all of this we give you thanks. Amen

Let’s eat. Any who need assistance go first.
